Any brainiacs that can help me out please do so, my father and I are old school mechanics we can fix MECHANICAL issues like a blown motor or a bad distributor or a burnt transmission or broken a axle, but when it comes to computers on wheels with useless ELECTRONICAL junk full of sensors and relays all I can do to fix it is throw a match in the gas tank and the problem‘s gone. My sister has a 2000 DODGE STRATUS with a 2.4 four cylinder motor with an automatic transmission and it runs and drives perfectly (well as good as a modern EFI car should run it runs good) and I know it needs a fuel pump because we turn it over when its cold and it wont start till we spray ether in the intake it knocks then it runs good, when we shut it down and pull the key, the motor keeps running, the dash gauges go bezerk, and three seconds later it shuts off the motor and a few seconds later the gauges turn off. When the motor is warmed up, were able to start it without ether, turn the key off and it keeps running and eventually dies (it takes longer to die as the motor warms up) So far we’ve tried checking the ASD relays, checked all fuses, we took out the tumbler and checked the switch module, unplugged the alternator, and unplugged the battery for 15 minutes all to no avail. Can the faulty fuel pump really affect this car that bad??? And it seems that whenever I mess with these modern cars and stumble across a problem, I’m the only one who has it happen the way it happens, every one says “do this and this and switch that and that, it worked on mine when I had this problem” Long live my 4-4-2
This car was never hot wired in any kind of way, I wouldn’t let my sister drive something I if I was unsure of anything in it. The car is a great little used car, with no issues and about a year ago I replaced the head and one piston due to a broken timing belt, and it ran great ever since, till yesterday when the fuel pump started dieing. Now it seems like it’s dieseling.
