Okay, a few months ago I went to a place in Pictou County, Nova Scotia to an area we call "losers lane".. Where all the riced up civics and whatnot sit around with their hoods up and think they have a fast car. Anyways.. long story short I did a big peel around telephone poles in a parking lot, power steering locked up and i shut the car off and "tried" to turn it back over but it just wouldnt. So it sat for a few days until it would. My assumption is that it jumped timing, and since it was a cold night the battery just would crank over the engine, since these motors have problems in starting in cold weather.
(2.0L, 5 speed) - Just in case you're wondering...
Anyhow, a few days after it sat, weather warmed up, it jumped right up and went along. But after that when I rev around 2.5k-3.5k rpms, you would hear a faint knocking until you shifted to the next gear.
It was like that for a month until one day I was comming down the highway and I was somewhat amused by the sound and wanted to play with it, so i got going around 120 in 4th gear and i heard it knocking, so I locked on the power steering. drove about 1/2 mile with it on knocking faintly, then shut it off because it was irritating me.
6km down the road going down the turnoff ramp to New Glasgow the knocking just kept getting louder and louder, the heat gauge was still only on half. So I just wanted to get to work. Got to the bottom of the ramp, went to take off.. It stalled, Started it back up and the knocking was ridiculously loud. I could hear it bouncing off the overpass. So, I pulled down across the road, heat gauge was still on half, poped the engine bonnet up and it was throwing off a ton of heat. After that it just kept knocking and knocking.
It sounds like it threw a rod, but im not sure if it did because i looked all over the block and I didnt see a puncture, unless it didnt break through.
Might it be just bent rods?
What else could it be?
Sorry for the long explination, Just got a bit bored and got into big detail.
