dodge ram won't shift right.?

1997 dodge ram 5.9L 4wd 180,000 w/ jet performance chip.
I've been having shifting problems with my truck lately. All started when i was driving home one day and my truck would not shift into overdrive or anything other gear properly resulting in driving 30 mph at 3000 rpms in first gear im guessing. Letting off the gas at all would just give a bunch of back pressure. I took the jet chip out thinking that maybe this was the problem and it seemed to fix the problem...for a while. Then as im driving to the drag racing strip i start having the same problems. When i let off the gas i'd get back pressure but not nearly as bad as before. When it came time to race id get up to about 70 or 80 and my truck would hit the rev limiter and would not shift into the next gear. To finally get it to shift i would have to let off the gas and punch it again. This happened to me 2 out of 4 races. Are the shims or whatever in my tranny worn out? Something else possibly? i hate to say it but could seafoam do anything? i know dodge trannsmissions suck but id rather not replace the whole thing.
i'd say im clueless as to whats wrong.
Thanks for any help, opinions, et cetera.
