My dodge ram 2500 gasser 5.9 seems to be week when towing. my toyota 4 runner v6 pulls stronger. I have tuned it up, all new oils, k -filter, all the works. Also it has a 195 T stat and runs about 210 not towing and 220-230 towing. It also has a strong burn smell when toing, not rotten eggs, just hot rubber smell but not bad if i dont pusk it too hard. Trans fluid just replaced too. Not break smell because it smells going up hill too. Funny thing the rad temp really drops below 195 when i am coasting downhill 2nd gear . I think the 5.9 L is just working to hard. The boat only weighs in at 1500 LBS so not sure why it seems so week . Runs great when not toing on hills or not towing at all. Any ideas....... Catilitic coverter ??

Had the same deal with my 3500 diesel. Turns out the transmission cooler was plugged, and the tranny was overheating. I'd have it checked at a shop. Also make sure your waterpump is functioning properly.
