Dodge Pickup Paint Wearing Off?

My high school/teenage son has a black 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab pickup that was in perfect condition when we bought it for him about 18 months ago. Within the last few months, sections of the paint have started fading away - 2 areas on the roof and all along the top edges of the bed side fenders. It looks pretty bad now and, when we took it into the dealer for mechanical maintenance work not too long ago, we asked the service manager his opinion. We know him pretty well and I suppose he was being brutally honest when he told me, "Dodges have cheap paint and black is the worst about wearing off." There's nothing they can do about it short of repainting the entire vehicle.

Here's my question: Are there body shops that can "spot paint" it to improve the appearance or are we asking for trouble by doing so - like paint that won't match correctly or might flake off in the future? I'd like to know a little more before I start getting laughed out of various auto paint shops! Thanks in advance!
