Noticed the first symptom about 3-4 weeks ago. Idled somewhat rough, but no check engine light came on.
Up until around 2 weeks ago, it ran good other than losing a headlight and me getting pulled over for it! After fixing that, it seemed but only a few days I noticed terrible misfiring driving to work and the check engine light came on. While on the highway, it seemed as if I was driving over rumble strips or had a flat tire. The truck since then has been driving like this.
While trying to run some fuel cleaner through, the fuel tank strap broke so I decided to take it to get fixed. Had ignition coil, cap/rotor, plugs and wires replaced using a quality brand. The mechanic also replaced some bad vacuum hoses and cleared a blockage in the pcv port on the manifold. The fuel lines checked good. Compression test showed all good. On the way home from the shop the truck had a lot more power, but still ran the same way, check engine light activated again. On the highway, the check engine light blinked 4x in a row, twice, while driving. I've never seen it do that before. When I got home, I went to restart the truck and now it stalls immediately. It didn't even do this at the shop. The truck will run while holding the gas pedal. If I play with the gas pedal about 9/10 tries I can get it to idle, and once it idles I can gas it and it returns to idle, I can select all gears, and everything almost seems normal and it doesn't stall. It even sounds smooth as if there's no problem at all.
I'm getting misfires on all cylinders randomly. Check engine light always stays the same. After it gets cleared and comes back on, the key on off 3x blinks code "43" which says in the Chrysler book: "Ignition coil control circuit" When read by Autozone it translates into all random misfires on 5/6 cylinders.
This truck has had a lot of maintenance done to it, but there are a few things left to be done. Have tried Ignition Coil, Cap/rotor, plugs, wires, Coolant temp sensor, vacuum leaks fixed, compression checked, 2 Bosch o2 sensors, air and breather filters, pcv. The battery showed good "12.8", but is quite old. Has never died or needed jumped.
Anybody have experience with the 3.9? It's a 5.2 with 2 cylinders chopped off. Any feedback would be great.
