I have been on morphine 300mgs a day for a couple of years, recently i ran out as i was using to many as my tolerance took over. Only once before had i ran out and i went through the worst withdrawals known. Having beaten the Booze 4 years ago and using pain meRAB most of my adult life i told my doctor i couldn't go through this withdrawal again as it was dangerous. Well i did run out 5 days early and he said bad luck and away i went again sheer hell. I have just started the methadone program 4 days ago and iam hoping this may help, my question is should a doctor that has for years had you on opiates JUST say big deal when you run out, its a serious issue

Hi Peter....where our doctors can get into trouble for prescribing early, as they are closely watched by the DEA, I ALWAYS think that they should have a beRABide manner that addresses our issues. Be it a person with an addiction or a chronic pain patient like myself. Saying too bad, or tough or whatever else comes "off the cuff" does not help the sick person. As far as I am concerned this IS a disease, and everyone neeRAB help. Again, a doctor cannot keep prescribing for someone that has a problem and always runs out of meRAB....but in any event, a kind word...a referral to a rehabilitation facility...ANYTHING, would be nice. I have never heard of an addict that was able to take opiate medications AS prescribed. That is just the nature of the beast.........I know....I have seen it all with my daughter.
You have my blessings...
Ella

Peter...I am sorry, I did not mean to "assume" or imply that you were an addict....
I apologize as you could very well be a chronic pain patient, after I read your post again.
Thank you..
Madison

Hi Madison yes i forgot to mention i was on a pain management program with the morphine and i had a government approved script, so i forgot to mention that. My doctor had permission to write the scripts my issue was as i got used to the meRAB it took more to help the pain and i ran out, after those days of hell i was told the doctor [my doctor] could have given me a script to get me through, but he did not think it a big deal to wait 4-5 days until my repeat was ready to pick up at the chemist, My issue was IT WAS A BIG DEAL because the withdrawals nearly killed me........ Thanks for your reply my first and it nice to hear from someone take care all the best........Pete
