catheryn,
That is crazy that they won't refer you mom to a specialist with regards to her jaw.
I've been told also it would be at least 8 months to a year for a consultation with another surgeon (plastic or hand)
I live in a mid size city. We have plastic surgeons but only one hand surgeon who has a long waiting list. All of them do. The current surgeon I go to be a new grad, so I got in fast, but I'm not sure of this doctor now.
The doctor that made the comments about my fingers is a rehabilitations specialist.
I have a male family doctor now. Even though he has never judged me out loud I am not so sure of him either now. I continue to have problems post op and saw him yesterday since I had a standing appointment. I have never cried in front of him, and I did yesterday because of how bad this sensation I am experiencing. He basically said to increase the meds I'm on. He is not a surgeon, but I keep trying to describe the sensation etc and they don't seem to listen to what I am trying to say or describe. The meds I'm on are not helping the sensation I am experiencing. If they don't know that is fine but after weeks of going through this, I wish someone would look into it. I am considering finding a new family doctor even though it is difficult to find one accepting new patients.
