Docs To Go Calc

I remember TinySheet having a small built-in calculator for simple 4 function math. I don't believe Sheet2Go has one or I'm missing something.

I was using TealCalc (pop up DA) but its copy/paste functions don't work in Sheet2Go as they did in TinySheet. I can use Abacus RPN Calc (great buy, great calc) but it involves leaving the spreadsheet to do the math, then returning to the "open page" and the copy paste doesn't work AT ALL.

I tried CustomCalc which seems the best, except it copies/pastes with a SPACE in front of the number which throws off the column math. Cool thing about CustomCalc is that you can place and color your own buttons on the 1st of 3 screens and make it "yours." EXCELLENT but I don't think I'll buy a 2nd one since Abacus was the first real "HP12C" Palmized RPN.

Does anyone use a pop-up calc they like for spreadsheets? How is it triggered (I'd prefer command bar, but TealLaunch's PopUp List will launch anything including a DA).

I'd prefer to be able to STAY within the application if possible, as there are any number of calcs available if I'm willing to close the application and return to it.

This is SUPPOSED to be one big advantage of OS6/Cobalt: you can suspend an app while bringing up a calc. That would be nice. TealCalc is okay, and the copy/paste is a Docs2Go thing rather than the calc's fault -- but any recommendations on a pop-up would be great (prefereable RPN).

SnapCalc 5.6, boys and girls!!! Think I actually looked at this thing 3 months ago and didn't "keep it;" I'm keepin' it now! It's terrific.

They have an OS5 version and HackMaster Version (which I tried under TealMaster, but no go).

Configurable from hard button, hard button hold, swipe or Command Bar - use PASTE to put in the Sheet2Go number, and COPY to put the "new total" INTO Docs 2 Go (opposite of what you'd think). Also neat append button and 3 options:

1. not to transfer the comma separator
2. Preserve Clipboard
3. Use outside pen tap to disconnect SnapCalc AND/ perform lower app's transfer function (or not).

Excellent, 63k, freeware - and copies and pastes to Sheet2Go.

Best of all, since it IS NOT "desktop accessory" then it would hopefully be OS6 compliant too. Most radically cool; a pop up calc was one of the things I was "worried about" in OS6. Not now!!

If you move it to flash, you'll get a message saying "you'll need to reset the device if you move this item." I went ahead and reset - working great in flash, no crashes. It WILL crash if you try to disable it in TealScript "write anywhere prefs" if it comes up in an app that IS NOT excluded from "write anywhere;" I wanted to disable TealScript while entering math but still have available for Sheet2Go. This way the numbers "enter quicker;" oh well -- it's still fantastic. Just remember to enter numbers a little slower than usual since initial taps in TealScript are sometimes recognized as periods according to your "sensitivity adjustments."

Took a look at it. I'll stick with SnapCalc 5.6, but thanks for the suggestion - I hadn't seen that one EITHER and I appreciate the input. Everyone out there can benefit from this thread now, because we're comparing products.

SnapCalc 5.6 is FREEWARE, much quicker and cleaner, is assignable to more than just the "basic" buttons (they're busy doing other stuff on mine) like "directional arrows," PLUS the option of simple "command bar" activation OR penswipes!!

I also noticed that at least for the 15 seconds I auditioned it, CalcOnTop seemed to go to a separate "white screen" when activated in Sheet2Go - it's own screen. Not a true "pop-up," where the underlying app can be seen and a "clear the calc" tap also activate a cell to work on. Not good.

I like SnapCalc's display better too, and it's 10k smaller and works in flash.

You'll probably stick with the one you paid for, but just for laughs you might try SnapCalc - won't cost you anything!

I'm just amazed S/C is so good AND FREEWARE; I dumped TealCalc (blasphemy!!). S/Calc isn't even a "DA" - it's a "full fledged app" like CalcOnTop. This means it doesn't require a desktop accessory launcher and will more than likely "have a shot" at working in OS6, which apparently won't support DA's of any kind. Excellent - only 3DA's to replace now, and I'll be "D/A-less."

To digress just slightly, I'm trying to eliminate "DAs" totally so as to be more "OS6 compliant." Now the only DA left to replace is "TealFiles," which lets me change backup-bit status from "B" to "b" or "disable." I could do without TealPad and TealEdit (2 other DAs) if I had to. Super Utility does the backup-bit thing too, but it's not as good as Filez or TealMover and is really bloated -- I'm sorry I paid for the upgrade from 4.0 to 6.0 - it was deleted long ago.

S/Calc is a terrific answer to 2 problems - freestanding app that properly interacts with Sheet2Go, and does it many options, and allows the underlying app to be seen.

Thanks again for the suggestion though dmyu; I appreciate your response!! Cheers!

I never had any problem with CalcOnTop, even on SheetToGo. It pops out properly on top of the open application (occupies 1/4 of the screen, and can be moved to where it will not cover the part being worked on). I tested it again on all possible applications after reading the last post, and it worked perfectly each time.

Well, I agree, why pay for a software when there is an equivalent one for free. And CalcOnTop also works only with 0S5. But just for comparison, I encourage others to try CalcOnTop too, especially present users of SnapCalc. I, on the other hand, will try SnapCalc. I don't mind dumping a $5 software if I can find a better one, especially if it's for free.

As stated by PalmTealLover, everyone out there can benefit from this thread because we're comparing products. I think this is the advantage of joining forums like this. We learn about softwares we would otherwise not know about.

I hand it to PalmTealLover. He replied to his own post, and convinced me to try the answer to his own question.

I tested SnapCalc for more than 15 seconds, and decided on 30th-second that it's better than CalcOnTop for the following reasons:

- it's free!
- it can "paste" to its display whatever is in the clipboard to strat your calculation
- more choices on how to launch it (I used the T3 five-way left button, held)

Go straight to SnapCalc. Disregard my previous post to try CalcOnTop. But, in fairness to latter, it worked perfectly in all my T3 aplications but lacks the choices that SnapCalc offers. I guess one-year use made my $5 investment worthwhile. Now I have a better one for free.

Good thread PalmTealLover. My friends will surely benefit from your suggested app.

(By the way, I was invited to the launch of PalmOne's new products in Manila on October 20. Surely the new T5 will be presented (and, I'm hoping against hope for the new Treo 650!)

Sorry, I was not able to see the errors in spelling and missing words in my previous post. I guess the next post should be about a good spell and grammar checker for WebPro.

Glad you liked it.

I had to laugh - I use the left arrow (HELD) myself -- that was a reason the other one wouldn't have worked! Changed it this morning to Right Arrow; since I'm right handed it's a "quicker move" with the stylus hand. With the left one I was using my Left Thumb while holding the T3 - and could just see dropping it on a cold day!!

GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE - Cheers and thanks again for the suggestion.
