It depends on what type of restaurants you eat in. It is very hard and time consuming to replicate many of the sauce bases used in French cooking. But for a good braise (short ribs or pot roast) I can whip up an excellent one.
I enjoy dining out so I don't have to clean up afterwards and can have a nice leisurly meal and try new foods I haven't tasted before.

Yeah, my Mom does especially. I have certain dishes that I can do much better than the restaurants. It doesn't defeat the purpose of eating out because eating out saves the fuss of having to clean up the dishes and the mess made while cooking. 
But it's much cheaper to eat at home, so that's what I do. We go and eat at Mom's every Sunday...it's soooo good.
