Do you think this would be strange?

My husband and I have a 6.5 month old daughter and we are moving in 2 weeks back to our hometown (about 4 hours plane ride) We have only lived where we are right now for about a year and a half but I became really good friends with a girl I worked with and her fiance. They basically love our daughter like their own, get her gifts for every occasion and I couldn't ask for better friends. Well we were thinking of asking them to be her Godparents before we leave. We want them to always have a special role in her life and recognize how much we appreciate everything they have done for her....which is more then half her actually family has done. Thing is we aren't planning to baptize her...at least not anytime soon. We feel it means more if she accepts God into her heart herself so we want to wait. Do you think it would be weird to ask them to be her Godparents since we aren't making it "official" by baptizing her? Or do people often choose Godparents without baptizing?
I've known them going on 2 years and they are great people...kids of their own who I love to pieces. Its also not as if they are raising my daughter for me either. Being a Godparent does not have to mean they would be given custody of my child if something happened to us.
Just to clear things up, I have absolutely no doubts about having them as Godparents. I just wanted to know if it was strange to select Godparents without baptizing. I was baptized so I have no idea.
