Do you think this is indoctrination?

Requiring school children to stand and say the pledge of allegiance?
In my daughters school...ALL children are required to stand and say the pledge. If they don't then they are sent to the office. It is considered a discipline matter.
I don't have a problem with any other child saying it, as long as it is THEIR wish to do so, and their parents wish to do so.

What if a parent is not an American?
What if that family practices a different religion?
What if that family doesn't believe in ANY god?

The ABC's, numbers etc..are memorization exercises. The pledge is indoctrination.

A "pledge" cannot be a pledge if it is required or enforced. A "pledge" is only a pledge when it is voiced of that individuals own volition and only out of their passion to express and make real that commitment. It is an act of faith.
Requiring our kids to recite something masquerading as a "pledge" simply teaches them that pledges are insincere, pointless formalities. It cheapens the pledge of Allegiance to turn it into the parroting of bored children, instead of an emotional commitment to a purpose and a way of life.
