Life;
Pulses through rivers and streams,
Through branches of gumtrees and the silence of dreams,
You’re blood rushes hastily, under your skin,
The shell of your body that keeps you all in
Laboured;
You’re first breath, a gurgle then gasp,
The scream of a newborn, the blistering rasp
Wrinkled and creased you seem olden and wise,
Looking serenely out pepper grey eyes
Thumping;
Your heart beats the love in my head,
I reach out to stroke you but hold back instead,
The room is transformed from the hygienic white,
To the angelic glow of now beautiful light
Tightly;
Your hands clench, then open out wide,
Like bulrushes, limbs swaying from side to side
Searching, your skin finds the bowl of my hand,
You quiet; a lost sailor, come across land
Watching;
Your chest rise and then sink down once more,
The sea of a future we’ve yet to explore
