Do you think the Philippines is severely affected with our present climate change?

I have seen the devastation of the weather system in our country through the TFC news channel. The recent flooding on Zambales and the Bulacan area particularly Obando area, is really bothering me. And the flight of the people stranded in these particular area in times of evacuation and no proper temporary shelter for them while the rain and the flood is awaited to subside, not to mention the numerous capsizing of many commercial vessel particularly the SUPER FERRY lines. This is the result of global warming, sino ba ang gumawa nito kung hindi tayo din. An increase in global temperature will cause sea levels to rise and will change the amount and pattern of precipitation, probably including expansion of subtropical deserts. The continuing retreat of glaciers, permafrost and sea ice is expected, with warming being strongest in the Arctic. Other likely effects include increases in the intensity of extreme weather events, species extinctions, and changes in agricultural yields.

The scenario is alarming yet we are still in the year 2009. Imagine the year 2020 or beyond 2030. We could be stepping on mud all over the Philippines, or perhaps some of the island we see on the map of the Philippines are not there anymore. Meron ng baha sa atin, particularly in Recto Avenue in Manila where every school is located during the 70's because the drainage is not properly clean at nun talagang binabarahan dahil pinagkakakitaan ang tulay sa mga estudyante, that mere crossing is a few centavos. That was long time ago, now we are facing much bigger problems. Some municipality is sinking to the ground or in the brink of vanishing on the face of the earth. What can we do to help in the present climate change in the Philippines. Do some of our government institution have plans for this?

Some of you might say we deserve what we get. Dahil tapon dito tapon dun, kalat dito kalat dun tayo nun. We never know the effect of the green house gas effect in our atmosphere until now. Now nature is taking its proper course, and remove us as the dominant species on the planet because of our evil ways.

In a nutshell, we are not the only ones affected.
Yes, the change in the climate is clearly visible & one way or another have experienced it first hand, that I think we might already have experienced. Also not only that it became different, unpredictable , it became extreme compared to what we usually have in our region/place or country.

You sound pretty worried when I find it not worth fuzzing about. During this period Philippines experience typhoon months , such as in U.S have hurricane season. Bigger waves is not that uncommon to regions even if there is no typhoon , so smaller boats faces risk of capsizing and bigger ships, are not that immune.

With regards to floods. Some countries have found ways to solve similar problems. There was this country(forgot the name)they built a huge water ways several hundred feet below the city several stories high(so it was humongous) where excess water are taken out and taken somewhere. For filipinos they cant afford to built such structures without taking another trillions of loans, thus it still flood coz our water ways are only about a size of a full grown person.

Point is we can only do one thing, and that is to adapt which filipinos does well. When the time some of the cities are underwater. Rest assured there are houses on tilts if not on banca with bantay on it, sari-sari store on boats, and even manong mambabalot paddling his timba. Coz filipinos make a way, whatever ways it might be.
