Do you think the actions of PETA have distracted the public from the animal

protection message? People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has reported to the state of Virginia that in 2007 their Norfolk, VA, facility killed 90% of the adoptable animals they took in that year. The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) facility right down the street adopted out 70% of their animals on a vastly smaller budget. And humane societies in Virginia managed to adopt out about 65% of their animals during the same period.

I love animals. I endorse animal protection, support vegetarianism and condemn animal testing. However, the more I read about PETA and their methods, I am sickened by the apparent hypocrisy. They are hurting the cause they vow to support... and animals are dying. I read further how they target children on their way home from school and in other places to "enlist" them in the cause without their parent's consent. These tactics are appalling to me. What do you think?
