Not really. There's some atheist alarmists going on about religious nuclear wars but I don't see it happening any time soon.

What taboo? If anything, atheism is extremely fashionable at the moment. whenever I walk through the bookstore I see a huge shelf of Atheist tomes by the like of of Dawkins and Hitchens.
if anything, civilization is in danger of slipping into the nihilism and solipsism that goes hand-in-hand with a completely secular and atheistic culture. imo the fundies among atheists are as bad as the fundies among the religious.
