Do you think that people who are caught for DUI should end up in jail?

I got caught for DUI and was on probation so know I will be going to jail for a little while. I didn't hurt anybody and was only just over the limit. Is it right that they put people in jail for something small like this when you hear about the jails and prisons being overcrowded.

well if you were only just over the limit you probably could react and even act almost completely normal but since you were already on probation yes, but if you weren't then no. that law doesn't seem fair. i think that law should be changed to something more reasonable anyway.

Yes, I do.

You aren't going to jail just for the DWI, by the way. You are going to jail for violating your probation.

We lost nearly five times more people last year to DWI crashes than we lost on 9/11. DWI is NOT a small crime.

yes i do. Nothing personal, but you risk killing someone else on the roadways as well as yourself.
Drinking or drugs while driving is a death wish for an innocent person-although the penalty seems stiff, it should be, how would you feel about the person drinking and driving and they killed someone you love? What punishment would you want for them? Or the fact that they even posed a threat to take a life.

Although no deaths occurred (thank god) you still place others at risk by making a poor desision that could cost a life, including your own. Life is not something you get a second chance to get back----You get no sympathy from me.

I do not care what you drink, smoke, inject, snort or eat in your home or with a designated driver. When you get behind the wheel of an automobile, your lack of sobriety then becomes the problem of the general population. Rationalize, minimize... I don't care. You broke the law, you pay the price.
I went thru this "Why me?" routine with my brother. I did not defend his behavior, and challenged his friends who wanted to make him a victim. He has come to his senses and owns his stupidity. Those 'friends' who thought his last wreck was punishment enough have all become inconsequential.
I am assuming you are in the U.S. or some other Western country. There is no tolerance for this stupidity in other countries (see the link below).
Having worked in a community mental health center, my favorite excuse was "F***ing cops screwed up my life." No, jackass. You screwed up your life. Shut up and face the music like a man, not a child.
When you selfishly endanger other human beings, you are a criminal. Criminals go to jail. I don't care if you go to "Extra Special Sunshine Jail for People Who Were 'JUST' Driving Under the Influence," but you need to learn that your choices have consequences. You do not have a "right" to be an @$$hole.
