well about it? Some people say things like, "Write what you know," to make it more "honest" or "in-depth". Others will tell you that just so long as there is a grain of truth to the story, it can be about anything. Otherwise there would be no fantasy or sci-fi. Do you think that if, for example, you give the character your personality, the plot can be about anything? Even though I mentioned fantasy and sci-fi, what I am really talking about is emotional endeavors. Do you think someone can write about a character who has had much worse experiences in life than they, the author, ever had? Even if these experiences are only mentioned briefly. Also, I have written a few pseudo-medical lit stories lately - do you think someone who is not a doctor can write on this theme? Last year I also wrote some poems about eating disorders, except told from the perspective of the person with the eating disorder. I have never had an eating disorder, but those poems were inspired by my best friend, who did.
I am mostly asking to glean your opinions - not because I am looking for a definite answer. I already have my own answer, that will satisfy me, at least.
