Do you think that if the media stopped showing violence in the news etc crime...

...would decrease? My sister was channel surfing and stopped on crimewatch and I was thinking that, since most petty thugs and criminals are unintelligent, do they get ideas from reports of other people's crimes? If the news cut down on negative things and put more positive and inspiring clips out there do you think crime would decrease? I'm really interested to hear what you all think! Thanks in advance :)
I mean all forms of media not specifically crimewatch and the news. For example, even if you dont buy a newspaper you subconsciously absorb the headlines.
 
Absolutely not. Do you mean 'See no Evil'? Just because you don't see it in the news, doesn't mean it's not happening.

Not once have I heard a convicted criminal say, "I saw it on the news".
 
No i think if the media stopped reporting the bad stuff, people would become complacent and believe the world was a safer place than it really is.
