Do you think that education may be over-rated?

I am not sure if a lot of people see it this way, but it seems that people value education over experience in our society. Do you believe that it is fair that someone with a college degree gets a better shot at a job than someone who has years of experience in a similar line of work?

Why is it so important to take a bunch of classes that leave you with nothing but meaningless and useless knowledge.

I am about 3 classes away from an associates degree in business, but I have learned little to nothing in all the credits I have so far.
Now I am finding out that all the jobs that I could have got 5-10 years ago are now requiring 4 year degrees, and I'm thinking about how I am going to be able to deal with 2 more years of learning more useless stuff than I have in the past few years.

I also have a real estate license, but I learned absolutely nothing in all the classes required to take the exam.

I'm not recommending that we throw away our education in this country completely, but why is it so over-rated today?

Education is in an extremely poor state of affair these days and most people are not aware of it. Someplace in our past, the schools realized that they could get Government money by having more students in the classes.

How do you get more students? You dummy up the classes. This is one of the reasons home education is becoming so popular. More and more patents are pulling their kids from the public school system and opting for home education. The schools no longer teach children to think.

The school I know of in California is granted $50 per day for every seat that is filled. When a child does not come to school, the school loses $50 for that seat. This has led to administrators who refuse to remove problem causing students from classes and a complete lack of power or authority over the classroom for the teachers.

Parents do not help. There was a time when a school could call a parent and the parent was expected to drop everything and run to the school to pick up their kid. These days, the parents are busy and it is the schools responsibility. In fact, if a child is removed from class, the parents often turn around and attempt to sue the school for not doing their job.

All of this contributes to the demise of the education system in America. Schools have become businesses that are more concerned with making money than education.

Are you aware that foreign students are charged almost 10 times the fees of American citizens to attend a University in America? These students return to their countries with Degrees from reputable universities but they have not been held to any standard what so ever. Most of them, upon returning to their country of origin, are still unable to use English at the high school level and know nothing of paragraph or sentence structure.

The American education system is failing America in so many ways that it has become completely foolish and a waste of time.

And there, in the "Community college" and being a business man yourself, you are seeing the results of it. The American education system is sick and dying.
