One thing all harley owners have in common is they don't want to ride a motorcycle, they want to be seen riding a harley. You can divide them into countless different groups.
Posers...
Rich urban bikers. Real bandwagon jumpers who have the entire spanking new harley davidson collection, new bike, new leathers, new harley davidson brand underwear. They think buying all this stuff gives them instant credibility. And don't go thinking harley inc isn't 100% about selling that idea.
The other side of the poser coin is people of low status who think a harley is a status symbol. These are your fry cooks and janitors who went down to the dealership and bought a new $35k harley with nothing down, have another $7K worth of engine work done on it to get an extra 10hp and park it in front of their rental house or double wide, behind their rusted out Ford. They think buying a harley makes them an instant badass.
Empty nester noobs. Normal responsable guys who had a family early and always wanted a motorcycle. Freshly retired they can finally get their dream bike. Only they know absolutely nothing about motorcycles and it has been pounded into them that a harley is all that. These poor rubes are a sad product of brainwashing. The good thing is that harleys are so under-performing that middle aged noobs can ride them.
Then there are the delusional diehards who have ridden forever and know bikes but are in total denial that harleys are primitive, have awful handeling and ar grossly underpowered. These are the guys who will never wave at anything other than another harley, because they can only keep thier illusions if they pretend that no other bike exists.
Don't forget the ratbikers. Even lower class than the fry cooks. They have an old AMF that leaks like a sieve, has bare ended wires sticking out from lights and ignition, has an expired license, and they are always beside the road tinkering. They always leave you wondering if they are trying to customize it from stolen junkyard part or just trying to keep it running.
And the only harley guys I can stand.....Diehards that are realistic about what a harley is and isn't, they just love being on the road and riding their harley, and could care less what other people think.
BFL....But when you shell out the big bucks for a Goldwing, you actually get what you are paying for and not just buying a chrome plated, two wheeled tractor with a killer advertising budget.
