I think lots of our inventions help and hurt us.

On one hand, people these days are dying at such early ages from such tragic and strange accidents.
If cars were never invented, hundreds of thousands of people a year wouldn't die from car accidents.
Not to mention, it would save a lot of the pollution that we breath.
Also; TVs, videogames, things that make our lives more entertaining could also be considered as hurting our health by making us lazier or weaker or just unhealthy.
At the same time, these and other entertainment inventions could be causing us to use our brains less and less.

However, there are so many new drugs and methods and tools out there that help treat and cure people who need it.
New inventions and discoveries have made huge breakthroughs when it comes to health and medicine. Antibiotics, new methods and tools in surgery, etc.

What do you think?
Is modern civilization hurting makind, or helping mankind?
Just an idea about how modernization is somehow hurting us:

In the late 1960s there was a study about Eskimos who were introduced to modern civilization around World War II. As the Eskimos became more entrenched in modern culture, myopia increased dramatically. In adults over 56, there was no myopia, but in groups of younger people, the myopia increased. More than half of the children were myopic just 20 years after these Eskimos entered the civilized world.

(myopia is nearsightedness)
