tl;dr - Is it ever appropriate to say "go kill yourself"?
I know, people hate trolls. I get that, especially the ones who are really mean/offensive. But tons of people on this site (and of course all over the 'net) tell people that they should go kill themselves, or that they deserve to die.
I think that's taking things WAY too far. Especially on a site like this (a "friendly" site). The way I see it, many trolls (not all, but many) are like bullies. And what's said about bullies? They usually have low self esteem, right? So how do you know that some dumb troll isn't a 15 year old with depression who's already attempted suicide, and your comment isn't pushing them closer to the edge? And it's not even just trolls that people say it to.
To be honest, I think it's okay to be blunt/forward on here, even mean sometimes. But I would never tell someone to kill themselves, no matter how angry they make me (and a lot of people piss me off here), and no matter how mean they were being. I think telling even a rude troll to die is pretty much becoming the beast yourself.
I know some people, trolls especially, "bring it on themselves" and that this is the Internet, and the Internet isn't for "sissies" but...we're all people here.
