Sorry kid, but life isn't fair.
I do think the financial aid system isn't entirely fair. There are parents who make enough money to pay for a college education, but choose not to. My parents and my husband's parents made about the same amount of money when we applied to college. I was very fortunate because my parents offered to (and did) pay for college for me. My husband's parents helped him out a bit (paying the interest on his student loans) but putting in a pool in the backyard was a higher priority. There are even worse situations, where the parents provide absolutely no support whatsoever once their kid is out of high school, but in those cases it is very difficult to prove that they really are independent.
There are other ways that financial aid isn't fair. Way back when, in high school when the counselor was helping us start our FAFSAs, she told us that if our parents own a business, then they probably won't get financial aid. Even if they aren't making a whole lot of profit off the business, from the government's point of view, they can just sell the business to pay for college!
