Do you think if you are raised in a competitive environment, you'll be more...

...successful later in life? Like the way Bill Gates was raised. His grand mother would make everything a competition when Bill Gates would bring his friends over. And his grand mother would reward winners and give penalty to losers. Do you think this made Bill Gates so competitive? Or do you think it's just his gene? Or do you think it's something else?

yes i can believe that. being competitive makes you try harder. and when you try harder, you have better chances at success.

No, I don't believe this for a minute!
I was raised in a competitive environment and all I did was rebel! I refused to try harder and I refused to go to college, thinking the whole time, "this will show my parents". Well, the only one it showed, was me. (dumb #$$)

Now married with children, I have no college degree or vocation, and things are tough.

I am trying to raise my kids differently, and hopefully teach them openly to see the choices they can make. They see the economy and how the choices in life will steer them. Only time will tell.

Your example of Bill Gates might be a good one, but I think about the Kennedy family. Joe Kennedy raised all his sons to be fiercely competitive. They may have been successful (albeit manipulative) in getting what they wanted, but look how many people across the country and around the world that they pissed off? Is fame worth that? Some would say no,
