Do you think enhanced CRB checks discriminate unnecessarily against those with...

...mental illness? Those who have had contact with the police or social services. Or have been sectioned under the Mental Health Act, in particular.

The reason I ask is because I have friends with various mental health issues, from PTSD, to bipolar to depression who have been rejected from, or lost, jobs/placements/certain university places because it shows up on their CRB. My friend does A2 Sport in college and he had a CRB check done a few weeks ago, it mentioned stuff about being sectioned when he was 14 + a time where the police and ambulance turned up at his house when he applied to do a sports placement with a school, as a result he wasn't allowed to be left with kids alone, and if it were a paid position, he'd probably not have got the job. I know of someone else who's been on section 136's (where the police arrest you for your own safety) to fail her CRB checks.

Imo, I think it's wrong to use a criminal record check to arbitrarily discriminate against the mentally ill if they've been unfortunate enough to get sectioned or have the police involved for one reason or another. It's true there's some dangerous mental/personality disorders out there that pose a risk to the vulnerable, but they should make a register for that instead.
