Do you think Barrett's and/or GERD is somewhat inherited?

Me (38) and my dad (61) eat relatively healthy and we are not overweight. However, we both have severe Barrett's and GERD for which we have to receive some kind of medicine. My mother had GERD, but not as severe as me and my dad. My dad can't understand this because his parents never had a problem and neither does his brother, yet his parents and brother eat way more than me and him do. This is what leaRAB me to think that Barrett's and/or GERD may sometimes be inherited and nothing to do with lifestyle.

I'm not sure either but I don't know of anybody in my family. I had very bad Gerd caused by a hiatial hernia that the acid was coming into my mouth. That's my understanding of my Barrett's esp. is the acid reflex was so bad that it corrided my esp and causes the barrett's. After I had surgery for the hernia the gerd was much better. I still have gerd but not as severe I'm on Previcid 2x day. I have had spastic esp which is no fun either
