It would look amazing
I would keep it to cichlids though. They tend to attack other tropical fish

depends on gallons, but african cichlids are avery popluar choice for rooms like this.

A goodsize is about 75 gallons, with wood stand and wood canapy. This will add a very nice look to the tank.

crushed coral bottom, along with plenty of slate and rocks to make a cave background wall.

For filteration you should get a canister, ehiem pro 2 are cheap now. Heater etc...

for plants, anabuis nana is very hardy and fine in higher ph level tanks.a few of those.

on a light contrast bottom, 1 frontosa would look lovely due to their darker blue coloration, they will get big so i wouldnt be looking to into a largegroup of them. Peacocks, are what you should be looking at. Alittle large for african cichlids but usually reaching about 6-7 inches which isnt bad. They come in a wide range of coloration and live in groups. Mbumas are alittle small for a 75 gallon and wont fair well with a frontosa.

As for catfish, syno... catfish are african cichlid friendly. There are alot of species of syno catfish so look into this. They are spotted and add a good coloration to the tank and they will act as regular catfish and eat left over food.

So i would look into for a 75.

1 frontosa,
13 peacocks,
2 syno catfish(i like feather fins)

This would be a very nicely stocked tank.

they look great, I have one, you can get bright colourful fish, you can make it look pretty close to a marine fish tank. The only 2 down falls with chiclids are, they can be quite aggressive, try to buy ones about the same size and have lots of hidey holes, the second downfall is that the are quite dirty fish. Otherwise they are great.
Electric Yellows and Blues,
Convicts,
Peacocks,
Rams,
Kribenses,
just check your local aquarium suppliers

Any well maintained tank will always look good, what you have to remember though when placed in a lounge, that you should keep the hood on at all times especially if you have to entertain guest that smokes, cigarette/cigar ashes that might accidentally get inside the tank will be harmful to the fishes.
Depending on your preference you can go african cichlids community tank, or south american cichlids. i suggest that you drop by your local pet store to look around and see what they have to offer and make your decision from there.

yes cichlid are very entertaining. I also have pacus, silver dollars a few other variety of cichlids that took my fancy at the time. they also share a tank with lots of catfish and eels. Feeding time is great fun to watch. A cheap food they enjoy is crap sticks or juicy worms from the garden.. Beware these fish grow very fast.
