Do you think a Chevy HHR LT SS is a good dependable vehicle?

I am a little leary of domestic autos but these get very good gas mileage and they are very roomy inside and they are pretty darn cheap. I am driving a Nissan Armada now and even with the gas prices down that thing costs me $50 to fill up and only gets about 14-16 HWY MPG. What cars would you recommend that are cheap.
I have looked at the Honda's but they are pretty pricey, up around 20K. I want one around 10K or 12K since I plan to keep the Armada for when the whole family goes somewhere, I need a cheap payment.
 
a good dependable car that gets good gas mileage is a honda civic which is small or a honda accord. i would reccomend the accord because its roomy and gets exelent gas mileage. i had one and still do and never broke! exelent car....
 
I say stay American but thats up to you. But civics are a nice car. There's a plus for an ss it has horse power and if it's just something going back an forth to work it's cool also you can have a nice shopping car for around town.
