Do you teach your children to always be honest, or to tell white lies to

avoid hurting someone else's feelings? This question was inspired by my son and a newspaper article.

A few days ago my son was complaining that his throat hurt, so I made him a doctor's appointment because strep throat has been going around the schools here. Well my son's doctor is one of those who will look first before running tests even the swab for strep. The doctor was pretty close to my son looking into his mouth, and my son kept backing up his head the closer the doctor came to him. Now instead of asking my son to sit still for a minute the doctor asked my son "why do you keep backing up for?" To this my son replies "because your breath stinks" The doctor was embarrassed and so was I to an extent. I mean after all the doctor did ask and my son told him.

We all have heard the questions that can spark us to tell white lies

Does this dress, jeans, etc make me look fat

Do you like my outfit

Do you like my hair

I mean the list can go on and on.

How would your child of answered the question?

And do you teach your children to always tell the truth, or to tell white lies to avoid hurting another person's feelings? Do you always tell them the truth to those types of questions or do you tell white lies to avoid hurting feelings?
