Do you take prerequisite courses in college or in high school?

Hi.
I want to go to James Cook University, but I'm not sure what prerequisite courses are.
I know prerequisite mean before-hand, but can you take prerequisite courses in college while taking your major?

I need to take a prerequisite for Chemistry and Maths B (it's australian)
