I was updating my Facebook status the other day to tell my friends that I went hiking. That got me wondering what is the proper way to say it:

"Tom IS gone hiking?" or "Tom HAS gone hiking"?

"Gone" is past tense. You wouldn't say, "Tom is gone hiking" as it does not make sense.

The grammatically correct sentense is: Tom has gone hiking.
