Do you power multiple Switches?

I am upgrading my BEV installation to HD. I currently have a powered switch 2x8 with only 4 outputs being used on it. It is powered by a DC adapter that plugs into the side of the switch, like you would charge your cell phone. I will be using a combo of this switch, and the new switch that came with my 9242 receiver, that is powered by a power inserter 4x4.

I am assuming that I would power both switches, but I thought I should ask on here in case they some how could conflict with each other somehow. Thanks.

Call Bell. The install is free. You can't combine the 2 switches. Assuming that u are disconnecting 2 basic receivers and adding the hd and using the backfeed, the 2 by 8 that u are using is no longer needed. 4 cables need to go to the switch from the dish. 2 91's and 2 82's. then 2 go to the hd and the other 2 obviously go to the 2 other receivers. If you are adding the hd and will be keeping the 4 other receivers, unless you add another dish the best best is to install 2 sw44 switches with 4 high frequency splitters( Eagle Aspen P-215-2AP-GX all ports power pasing 900-2200mhz ) This process is a little more complicated and I have an image I could attach but am not authorized by this site. If you search I was told that there is one somewhere. As mentioned before the install from bell would be free as long as you take the hd package for 6 months( confirm with Bell.)

The sw 44 is powered by a power inserter. I feed 2 sw 44's with 2 sw 24's.
The drawings are in the 9200 install 101 thread.

I am by no means an expert, but I feed a 6100 HD receiver and 4 other receivers from a 2x8 switch. I ran the two lines from the 91 into the 2x8 switch. Then I took one of those feeds and plugged it inot an SW21 switch along with the single cable from 82. The SW21 then feeds the 6100. f you are only planning on adding one HD receiver right now, you can still use the 2x8 switch and you only need to have one line from the 82 LNB. Everything else you need should be in the box. There is more than one way to skin a cat, so to speak, and of course Bell wants you to do it the official way - 2 SW44 switches. But a basic understanding od how satellite distribution works can yield the same result with a lower cost.

Run the SD receiver on the line with the Power Insertor if possible.

No need to power the SW28 unless you are 200 - 300 feet from the Dish.

SW44, HAS to have Power.

As a new HD customer, you would be entitled to a FREE Upgrade of all your existing equipment to pick up HD, this would include 2 x SW44's etc.

I have the following set-up at home.

One SW44-A that cascade in a SW44 for a total of 8 outputs.
You have to feed them both with the power inserter that comes with them.

If you choose to use the SW44 switch, make sure the power inserter goes on the first output. Correct me, if this is not true, Nimiq1, but I believe it has to work that way, right?

Putting two switcheds is only what Bell wants . If the cx wants to add other hd receivers at least he will be completely ready. Some customers have more than one hd ( 3 or 4 ).Instead of giving quick fixes at least set up the cx long term so he doesn't have to rewire again.

There will be NO rewiring.

If you dont understand the equipment that is not my problem.

The porr customer has probably already been charged $150 for the 8 way switch by Express Vu.......Total Rip Off....

Correct.

Although there are hundreds of refurbished SW44's released by Express Vu that are screwed up internally.....lol. They need the Power Insertor on Port #3.

We try NOT to use these....

Your option will work just fine.

Reason I did not suggest that was;

1. Customer already has an 8 way switch.
2. Customer will get an SW44 for free with the 9200.
3. SW44a is not approved by Express Vu.
4. No additional costs to the Customer.

If he never needed the 8 way switch he probably never paid for it The second sw44 will be free too. He'll be set up perfectly and all lines will be HD ready. I understand that the 8 way switch switch won't solve his problem indefinitly.
