This should be a fun question . When some people play Monopoly, they go by an unofficial rule to the effect that when a player pays out cash as a result of a "Chance" or "Community Chest" card, the money is put into the center of the board . When a player lands on the "Free Parking" space, he or she gets to take all that self -- same money . While this rule isn't followed in an official Monopoly tournament, it's okay in the typical Sunday afternoon game, as long as everybody agrees . Cecil Adams on "The Straight Dope" website says the "Free Parking" variation is well -- known all over the United States, and an equal number of people play by the official rules . Have you ever heard of the "Free Parking" variation ? Do you play by this rule, or do you play by the official rules ? THank you in advance for your answers .
