ploy and send a post dated cheque? Why is it more and more companies are asking for an advance payment?
Jane H: well it works for me, BT now don't bother sending me a reminder, actually they are quite happy as long as they get their money.

I was always late with payments and that was on the red ones as well, what I do now, is pay on-line, but I pay them a certain amount each week, I find it easier to manage that way.

As mentioned, the post dated ploy doesn't work. My bills are a mixture of direct debit AND on line banking. I have set up payees for gas/electric/water/credit card-and pay what I choose to pay rather than a fixed fee with direct debit. I do this once a month, then settle in full once the quarter bills comes through. I also get saving stamps every month for my car tax so I don't have a large amount to find every 6 or 12 months.

I pick one day about a week ahead of the first bill due. And use that day to pay all bills so I don't have to worry about them. I'd been late before and got major penalties.

Alot of mine are direct debit, but if not I always like to get them paid and out of the way, otherwise I will forget and then end up paying late payment charges
