The "Been there, done that" answer: Check Vehix.com and Cars.com. As for reliable... Anything Pontiac, anything Japanese (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, their child companies) (check for rust!!!), or any kind of cheap Chevy truck (ideally using a 3800 series motor) should give you a good start.
