Do you need to get a data plan for the Samsung link?

The service provider is Solo Mobile. Right now I am with solo and I have a plan where I have free texting and free web browsing. So I want to transfer this plan over to the Samsung Link. But My question is, will my web browser work on the samsung link, or does it require a data plan??
