Do you need internet access to get a game on your phone?

I Have At&t wireless and i would like to know do i need internet access on my phone to get a game i'm trying to buy the game on the at&t website after i know the game will be sent to me in a text do i have to have internet access so the game can download onto my phone ? Thax :)
