Do you need an Xbox Live account to activate and play Xbox 360 arcade games?

I currently have an Xbox Elite 120Gb hardrive and feeling fine :D

Then I found on amazon.com an Xbox 360 arcade game called "Castle Crashers"
and was very excited to purchase this through amazon.com so that me and my brothers can play. But then it says that it is an online
game code and that in order to purchase this I need my xbox connected to the broadband internet.
I do have a wire to connect my xbox 360 to my internet so thats okay but my biggest question is,
do you need an Xbox LIVE account in order to play this game? I'm really not that excited about playing online currently or to purchase an Xbox LIVE account subscription.

So my biggest questions are is...
-Do you need an xbox LIVE account to activate and play this?
-Where do you type in the code that amazon.com gives you when you purchase?

So until my 2 important questions are answered I am holding back my $15

Xbos live silver is free and that's all you need to play the game. If you want to play it online, you'll need the Xbox live gold subscription.
 
well you should have a free month of gold on your xbox but silver is free and you can download arcade games that aren't online multiplayer like Trails HD.
