Do you need a receipt in order to get your ps3 fixed?

So I bought my ps3 around February 2007 brand new from Walmart,it is over a year old now with no warranty and I don't have a receipt,my question is do I need the receipt in order for Sony to fix my busted ps3 or can I just pay the $150 straight up with no receipt,or do I need the receipt and need to pay $150 too?
