CHRISTMAS EVE

Evading my stealthy, searching glances
Hiding, leaping on a waxen throne
My flame
Licking with a tongue of greed
Primal, raw and untamed

Soft light curls around dusty covers
Stiff parchment, yellowing with age
Books
Galaxies locked behind gates of ink
Seeking knowledge… and finding.

Blackness lurks outside my circle of safety
Looming, sinister, rife with untold evils
Shadows
Searching for my soul but
Only failing

Merciless hands chasing each other
A fruitless battle, an unquenchable hunger
Time
Eating through existence like acid
Ever patient, ever silent and never ending

Trickles of an invisible rainbow
Glitter like stars in the gloom
Songs
Caressing me with their gentle voices
Seducing, comforting…unreachable
