“I’ve lost him. The one and only guy that I loved has slipped away into the darkness.”
Salty tears dripped from her glossy, ocean blue orbs. Her smile had drifted away when she received the phone call.
“Hi, is this Jasmine Richards?” She recalled hearing from Mrs. Johnson.
She had answered with an upbeat “yes.” She was completely oblivious that Mrs. Johnson was sobbing and sniffling.
“I-I’m sorry dear, but he passed away. He got into a car accident.”
Jasmine had laughed it off. “That’s hilarious! It really is, but you can’t fool me.”
“I-It’s true,” Mrs. Johnson had stuttered into the phone.
Jasmine became serious. “Tell me that it isn’t true. Tell me that I’m being pranked!”
“I’m sorry, Hun, but he’s gone.”
Jasmine became uneasy and started to sway. Her finger pressed the “End Call” button, and her hand let go of the phone. Reluctantly, she fell to the floor and sobbed.
That had been an hour ago. The tears were still streaming down her face. The love of her life had deceased and left her all alone. They had been dating for a year and two days. They had celebrated their anniversary just a few days ago. Now, she had nobody to support her. Her family and friends were back in Texas, leaving her all alone. Nearby, there was a picture of the two of them cuddling on her couch.
Finally, the door bell rang, and Jasmine forced herself to answer it. As she opened the door, she became silent. Black skinny jeans hugged his legs, while a white t-shirt covered his muscular chest. His short, black mane was slightly spiky, and his chocolate orbs glistened in the sun. A smile covered his face, and it seemed that he was completely unaware of his brother’s death.
“Joseph, what are you doing here? Wait, should I call you ‘Joe’ or ‘Joseph’?” She asked.
“I’m here to comfort you. Also, you should call me ‘Joe.’ I’m only called ‘Joseph’ when I’m in bed.”
“Perv,” she mumbled.
“Love you, too,” he shot back at her. He invited himself in and sat down on the couch. He patted his lap to signal her to sit. She headed towards him, but sat next to him instead. He sighed to himself and put an arm around her ice cold, fragile body. She squirmed away from him and crossed her arms. “Listen,” he started, “I’m sorry for your loss. We’re all upset, we really are. I guarantee you that we’ll get through this, though.”
“No, Joe, we won’t. I loved him so much. I don’t think that I can let go of him.”
“Jaz, I know that you will. We’ll help you get through it.” He said as he leaned towards her.
She stared into his eyes and became dazed. Suddenly, she found herself also leaning in. Their lips crashed together, and bright fireworks went off in their heads. Jasmine pulled away and shook her head.
“This is so wrong. You’re Chad’s brother, for God’s sake! I can’t be in love with my boyfriend’s brother!”
“Jaz, I love you. In fact, I’ve been in love with you ever since I saw your beautiful face. I’m sure that Chad wouldn’t mind us dating. I mean, he would probably want you to be happy.”
“O-Okay,” she stuttered.
Their lips crashed together once again, and that night, they fell asleep on the couch. Time will tell if they’re meant for each other.
