Well, actually it's a series. I think it's kind of old. I remember one of the books was called The Hole in The Tree or something like that. The cover is like a tree house, but there's only this hole (I think with a door swinging inwards) and someone sitting down inside (we can only see their knees). In that particular book there was something about protecting badgers in the forest. The whole series is basically about alchemy. Oh, and there's time-traveling too.

Please help...
