I think it really depends on what you consider affordable!
Babe's Restaurant in Rancho Mirage, CA. at The River shopping center offers southern BBQ (think ribs and brisket), but the ambience is great! Price range goes from 15-25 per person.
There are plenty other restaurants in downtown Palm Springs right off of Palm Canyon and Indian Canyon, and plenty others in the surrounding cities (Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert). Just depends on the type of cuisine and your price range!
