From New Jersey to South Dakota...hmmm, I bet there's a little bit of culture shock there! I have a Chinese friend in Chicago that rides Harleys and I've never seen any problem with that.
Then again, that's a very large city. I'm in farm country in Missouri and if you're in a rural area (I guess that's any place other than Rapid City, Pierre and Sioux Falls), just know that you'll probably need to prove yourself to long time rural residents.
By prove yourself, I mean that they're going to need to see examples of your character rather than automatically accept you with open arms. First off, if you have that arrogant, smarta$$ed eastern attitude (yes, I've experienced it plenty of times, so don't deny it), you need to drop it pronto. If you don't have that attitude, congratulations. Be polite, honest, sincere, helpfull when needed and never judge a person by their profession or the clothes they wear. That old boy in worn bib overalls and rusted out pickup just may be able to buy the entire state of New Jersey if he wanted to. However, chances are he'd wouldn't take it if it were given to him.
In short, be a decent guy with a wood work ethic and it won't matter if you or your wife are white, black, yellow or green with purple polka dots. People will accept you for who you are, not what you are.
