I just bought a Harley Davidson Night Rod Special and my wife was concerned that there may be some racial tension for an asian rider to be riding HD bike (she is Caucasian).

And not it kinda concerns me as well, so I decided to ask. Thank you.
Not new to the country....born and raised in Jersey, but recently moved to South Dakota for a job. Things are a bit different here.

I would be, if I could afford one! All I could afford was an old Yamaha that's approaching rat-bike status. Haha, it beats paying for parking on campus! btw, that H-D you got is the one I dream about!! They look soo great. Besides, they aren't typical Harleys, so you don't have to be too concerned with looking like a typical Harley-rider.
Ride safe!

From New Jersey to South Dakota...hmmm, I bet there's a little bit of culture shock there! I have a Chinese friend in Chicago that rides Harleys and I've never seen any problem with that.

Then again, that's a very large city. I'm in farm country in Missouri and if you're in a rural area (I guess that's any place other than Rapid City, Pierre and Sioux Falls), just know that you'll probably need to prove yourself to long time rural residents.

By prove yourself, I mean that they're going to need to see examples of your character rather than automatically accept you with open arms. First off, if you have that arrogant, smarta$$ed eastern attitude (yes, I've experienced it plenty of times, so don't deny it), you need to drop it pronto. If you don't have that attitude, congratulations. Be polite, honest, sincere, helpfull when needed and never judge a person by their profession or the clothes they wear. That old boy in worn bib overalls and rusted out pickup just may be able to buy the entire state of New Jersey if he wanted to. However, chances are he'd wouldn't take it if it were given to him.

In short, be a decent guy with a wood work ethic and it won't matter if you or your wife are white, black, yellow or green with purple polka dots. People will accept you for who you are, not what you are.

I think that if I were you I would just get rid of the hardly but it has nothing to do with race. Get a real asian made bike, they are far better especially when you consider the value. I choose to ride a Jap bike even though I was born and raised in the USA. I have read about problems with race and harley group events as well as the rear jug overheating on the new hardlys over the net.

IF you are concerned about being Asian in South Dakota, and are concerned about having a caucasian partner, then you will be concerned about being asian and having a caucasian partner anywhere in the world.

Give people some credit, be yourself,as an independant individual, and get rid of the racial stereotypes. You give off bad vibes with that sh*t.

And, what does this have to do with motorcycles?!?

Clear the cobwebs from your mind, pal. Greet everyone with a smile. Be the nicest person on the road. Follow traffic rules and ride with a positive attitude.

There will always be people who envy. You will find those type of people everywhere. In any state, in any county. Be extra nice to them when you happen to contact them. The bike you have just purchased is a coveted luxury item. Not everyone can afford it. Envious looks are part of the whole motorcycling package. You cannot escape it. Over a period of time, you will get used to it. So just take a deep breath and relax.
