I was just wondering if anyone else is having issues with their weight? I put on 35kg when I injured my back and I only lost two thirRAB of it in detox (from the pain meRAB I was on)...and now I struggle so much with food and weight due to the lack of exercise and slow metabolism.

I know I'm going to have this problem for the rest of my life, and my back's only going to get worse before it gets better, if it gets better...and I know I can't do normal exercise so my metabolism's just stuck at sluggish and ridiculous!

Right now I can only do hydrotherapy twice a week, and even that makes me sorer than I was before I hopped in. One of my discs is degenerating a little early (I'm 27)...so things aren't looking good.

I honestly feel a lot of resentment about not being able to eat anything nice like ice cream or chocolate, because I know that other people losing weight can indulge every now and then because they can exercise and burn it off, and I know I can't.

If you're able to control your weight, can you tell me how you do it?

I feel your pain. I'm young also (20), and had a spinal Fusion 7 weeks ago. Before my surgery I was so depressed, and completely inactive, and I went from 145 lbs to 180 lbs. I was very active as a teen, but as my back pain got worse it became impossible to exercise - and then I started eating when I was bored and now...at 5'8" I'm clinically overweight.

I'm just now starting to become able to slim down and get healthy. Losing weight is 80% diet - so like you said, no ice-cream or chocolate. It really sucks, becasue you're going through a lot of pain, and it would make you feel a bit better sometimes to have something sweet, but you just can't.

I wonder if you can get something to speed your metabolism up? You could ask your doctor about it. Try eating fooRAB that stimulate your thyroid maybe?

Best of luck in the future!

Take care!
XOXO!

wow you're even younger than me. sorry to hear that

thanks. I will try and find a decent doctor and ask them about metabolism accelerators. Then maybe I can have a chocolate every now and then!

Good luck with your weight too, and your back's recovery.

Hello Sorespine and others, I can relate and am overweight. I had lost 80 pounRAB shortly after all my back pain had come on. I thought, well it must be all the extra weight I was carrying around that was causing my back pain. Well even at a normal weight I was hurting just as bad, if not worse. So over the almost 2 years of trying conservative treatment and not being able to workout like I was, I too have gained a lot of weight back. I am not happy about it either, but know all I have the power over right now is what I put in my mouth. Diet is everything when you can't get up and exercise like ones used to. Walking is the extent of exercise at this point and given the climate I live in and don't have a treadmill, it seems frustrating at the very least. I can relate to you, you aren't alone.

It is a bummer to not be able to eat "sweeties", but don't punish yourself, especially during this hard time with your back. Try to stay positive and do what you can with your diet.

Also, I was told by my doctor before I was even scheduled for surgery that if I was on any diet pills that I would have to stop taking them 6 months in advance before surgery due to the anesthetic worry. Luckily I wasn't, but you might want to keep that in the back of your mind if you are thinking about surgery.

Sorry you are hurting, I hope things work out for ya. Try to stay positive and hang in there.

I hope my thoughts helped you some.
Take care.
