Do you have to write your own vows when you are renewing?

My husband and I would like to re-new our wedding vows for our anniversary. I was wondering if it is neccessary for us to write our own vows or can we just repeat after the minister like we did the first time around?

I'd at the very least look up a different set of vows than the original. Really I think not writing them takes away the meaning of "renewing" them though.

I don't think writing your own vows is necessary whether you are renewing or it is your inital wedding.
But you should run it past your officiant so they know you want to do the "standard" vows and just repeat after him/her.
