Do you have to work out at a gym to loose weight?

So I'm 5 foot 4 inches. And I weigh around 145ish and I want to drop down to like 125 about. So for example do you have to work out on a treadmill to loose weight?or at a gym in general.. what cardio can I do at home???
Oh and how long do you think it will take me to loose 20 lbs?
