Do you have to pay extra fro verizons htc phones and droid?

I really want the droid or one of the htc phones but i heard you have to pay extra for it. Im in a family plan and i dont use internet do i still have to pay extra
 
Yes, because its a smartphone it requires the $30 data plan wether or not you will use it. It basically for your safety because Android is web-based. It connects to the internet the moment you turn it on and cannot be activated without an google account, which is why its required. It cannot function without a web plan at all
