J James New member Jul 8, 2010 #1 I was told by a 'mechanic' that I didn't need a scanner to read the codes on my 95 cherokee and that the check engine light was supposed to flash the codes to me after I turn the key to off and on position 5 times. Do I need a scanner to do this?
